Ingredients:
400 g melon
1 carrot
2 tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp honey
1/4 tsp ginger (optional)
1 tsp flax seeds (optional)

Preparation

  • Cut the fresh melon and add it to the blender.
  • Peel the carrot, cut it into smaller pieces, and add it to the blender with the melon.
  • Squeeze a few drops of lemon juice and, if desired, season with a little bit of powdered ginger. Optionally, you can also add some flax seeds.
  • Although melon is naturally sweet, you can additionally sweeten the smoothie with a teaspoon of honey.
  • Pour about 50 ml of water and mix everything together in a blender.

For greater refreshment, cool the prepared smoothie in the refrigerator. If you separated the seeds when cutting the melon, it is worth preserving them because they contain many valuable nutrients, of which omega-3 fatty acids are the most prominent and are highly valued in Indian cuisine. It is recommended that you wash the melon seeds and leave them to dry on a clean cloth for 2–3 days, then store them in a glass jar. Dried seeds can be used in the preparation of pastries, added to various dishes and drinks, or consumed as healthy snacks.

It is interesting how, like watermelon, melon is considered a fruit, even though both foods are actually vegetables from the cucurbita family. Melon is a low-calorie food with a high nutritional value, which makes it a real diet dessert. It is considered a great choice for a nutritionally valuable breakfast because, among other things, it is rich in fiber, which makes you feel full. Apart from smoothies, melon is a great addition to oatmeal or various fruit salads.

Due to its high water content, melon is particularly suitable for hydration on hot summer days. It goes well in combination with carrots because both foods are rich in beta-carotene, a well-known antioxidant that, apart from being responsible for their warm orange color, also helps protect the skin from UV radiation.
